ADC provided the structural engineering analysis, design and construction documents for the major renovation of one of the most famous historic theaters in the country. ADC was tasked with updating the seismic strength of the existing theater while also structuring new theatri- cal features to enhance the building’s use. A new cantilevered stage along with completely new loft rigging were important elements of the renovation. The overall historic building was completely inspected and repairs designed for the existing brick, foundations, and framing systems. Structural work was also required to support the new HVAC equipment both on the roof and in a newly created basement. The building’s seismic resistance was greatly improved through the use of reinforced gunnite shear walls and addition of both steel and concrete elements in the stage area.
