The school is among the first developments in a 4,500-acre mixed-use community located in the Nexton Planned Development in Summerville, SC. The 105,500 square-foot facility will accommodate 900 kindergarten through fifth grade students.
The school features natural lighting incorporated throughout the building to reduce utility costs, wireless internet connection, 41 regular classrooms, a wing for each grade level, two music rooms, two art rooms, a full media center, to stationary computer resource labs, a large cafeteria and multi-purpose room with a stage, and a courtyard that can used as an outside classroom.
The building is configured as a series of rectangular wings tied together by connector elements. A mechanical platform above the corridors The exterior and main interior partition walls are CMU for typical school durability reasons but also serve as shear walls. The roof is steel beams, steel bar joists and metal deck.
