The new 92,500 square foot, two-story North Charleston Elementary School was constructed on the 6.4 acre site of the old North Charleston Elementary School. Construction material from the demolished school was used in the construction of the new school. In the end, 86 percent of construction waste from demolition through construction phases was kept out of the landfill. The new North Charleston Elementary is South Carolina’s first public elementary school building to be LEED® Silver and the nation’s second certified elementary school.
